Staff of Life Welcomes Cyclists

Staff of Life co-owner Gary Bascou is proud of
everything about his new store, including
the bike racks. The new bicycle parking
will accommodate up to 28 bicycles.
Park your bike at the new Staff of Life Market at 1266 Soquel Avenue, just across Soquel from the old store. Opening on February 15!
With the new Staff of Life location nearly finished, owners Gary Bascou and Richard Josephson have been working with People Power to make the store as bicycle friendly as possible. The result, after many conversations and design consultations, is seven outside bike racks at each end of the front of the store, and six covered bike racks next to the cafe. (Special thanks to the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission's bike program for providing the racks.) There is also a public bike pump and a bicycle community bulletin board that will be moderated by People Power, so check it out for the latest rides and campaigns. Staff of Life employees have a separate, locked bike room and a shower.
In addition to designing the store to support sustainable transportation, Staff of Life gave People Power a very generous donation to show their appreciation of the work we do. Staff's excellent bike facilities are part of their efforts to receive a Green Building award from the City for the new building.
But feeling grateful and loyal to Staff of Life is not the only reason cyclists are going to want to shop there. The new store is 24,000 square feet, focused on local and organic food. It will have a "farmer's market" in front, a full service cafe, a cappuccino/smoothie/juice bar and Kombucha on tap. Ride your bike, walk, or take the bus (Route 71 runs every 30 minutes) to the new Staff of Life and enjoy!
