Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line Now in Public Ownership

We are proud to announce that the transfer of the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line from private to public ownership for $14.2 million was completed today. This represents years of work—from the construction of the guerilla Rail Trail, to rallying the support of countless local politicians and residents, and emergency trips to Sacramento. Thanks so much to Micah Posner, the Regional Transportation Commission, Friends of the Rail Trail, and to the countless volunteers whose support made this possible.

Now let's celebrate! Mark your calendars for the rail trail acquisition party on Saturday, November 17, 2012, with whistle stops in Watsonville, Capitola, Live Oak and the west side of Santa Cruz. Stay tuned to the RTC website for more details.

People Power will be closely monitoring the next steps and keeping members informed on the progress of both rail service and construction of the multi-use trail. Please consider attending upcoming meetings where you'll have opportunities to weigh in on the Draft Trail Network Master Plan.
