Summer Classes at the Bike Church
All classes are at the Bike Church, 703 Pacific Avenue at Spruce Street, Santa Cruz.
All clases request a $5 donation to help us cover costs. No one turned away for lack of funds.

Women's and Trans Bike Workshop

Date and Time: every other Sunday morning, from 11am to 2 pm, all summer. Dates: July 2, 16, 30; August 13, 27; and September 10, 24
Safe space workshop for women and trans persons. All skill levels welcome. Lessons will be followed by supervised fix-it time. No bike needed. Come and learn!
Kid's Sundays at the Bike Church
Instructor: There will be two bike church mechanics present every Kid's Sunday
Date and Time: alternate Sundays to the Women's/Trans class, from 11am to 2pm, all summer. The dates are: July 9, 23; August 6, 20; and September 17
A time for kids ages 8-16 to learn about tools, bike safety, and bike maintenance. Bring your bike that works and tune it up, bring your broken bike and fix it, if you don't have one, come and learn how you can build one! Kids interested in participating must bring a parent at the beginning of the day to check in.
Basic Safety Bike Tune-up

Learn how simple and quick it is to make your bike safe and rideable. No bike needed.
Bike Gears and Shifting

Mystified by your bike's gears? Come learn how to adjust, clean, and maintain your entire drive train (that's the chain, the gears, and the shifters). No bike needed.
Bicycle Headsets: Adjusting and Tools

Date and Time: Wed, July 19 at 8pm
Learn how to fix a tricky and delicate part of the bicycle. Special attention will be paid to those tools specific to working on headsets. No bike needed.
Bike Brakes: Types and Maintenance

Brakes squeal, and slip, and hit the tire, and fail to stop you—but you can change all that! Come learn about how brakes work and how to fix them. No bike needed.
Make your own Panniers
Instructor: Josh and Tim
Date and Time: Sat, Aug 19 from 11am-2pm
Panniers are the fancy bags that hang off a bicycle rack. Learn how to build your own pair from salvaged materials. Some materials provided, a small fee may be required. No bike needed.
Bicycle Wheel Truing

Adjust the wobble in your wheel, and learn about the dynamics of the process. No bike needed.
Build a Rear Bike Wheel

Start with a hub, a rim, and some spokes, and end up with a rear wheel! The process will be covered step by step. You can either buy the materials (around $20-$30) and keep your wheel, or build a wheel to donate to the Bike Church. No bike needed.
